These white roses are a climbing variety that are growing in an out-of-control manner around my house. This particular bunch was hanging over and sitting on my porch just begging me to paint them. I obviously used negative painting techniques to create the flowers (hopefully in a positive manner). The background is a pure wash of Daniel Smith Bronzite watercolor paint while the rest of the subject uses Rublev 18th century reproduction watercolor paint. The Bronzite paint really settles into the coarse grained Arches 140# cold-pressed watercolor paper I used and has a glistening effect due to the metal particulate which it contains. I wanted to incorporate a very dark shadow into the piece in order to accentuate the whiteness of the flowers and to pull the colored highlights of the flowers back into the painting. The original is 10.25"x14" in size.
