Another dahlia in my series of floral watercolor paintings, this one was found at the Point Defiance Dahlia and Rose Garden in Tacoma, Washington. I haven't had as much time to paint lately so I went for a bit of a looser feel and utilized the time I had efficiently. The piece took about 2.5 hours to complete and is 10"x13.5" in size. Even though it isn't quite as refined as several of the others in this series of paintings, there is something that I really like about this one. I used a combination of Rublev 18th century reproduction watercolor paint, Daniel Smith watercolor paint, and Winsor & Newton watercolor paint on Arches 140# paper.
I have created a short video showing the progress of this particular painting over the course of the 2 1/2 hours it took to create it. It is fun to watch the progress as the painting morphs from one state to the next.

Superb work Ken! I like the fragility you've portrayed and an excellent background!
